Running backs will learn about multiple defensive fronts, there strengths and weaknesses, and how to be successful against them in the running and passing game. Blitz pick up and pass protection techniques rules and concepts that apply to the passing and running game. Running back elusiveness: They will learn how to become an effective runner through several techniques such as the third leg, and the dead leg. We will work on jukes such as the one-step, the one-two step, and one-two three steps. Coach Redmond will teach spin moves, stiff-arm, jump cut, and pop slide as fundamental assets for the running back position. They will learn how to run routes as a running back from the backfield, and detached from his normal backfield alignments. These are the routes from the backfield they will learn: flares, fans, reads, angles, fake angles, wheels, seem rails, circles, and choice routes. From the detached position, these are the routes they will learn: the 1 and 5 step hitches, slants, and quick slants, slant and go, returns, curls and fade routes. Chalk talk is a period you learn through different types of visual illustrations, football schematic techniques that exploit one on one-match ups in different game type situations that occur at the running back position.
Mission: To give the pop-warner community the opportunity to enhance their understanding of the game while working on their concentration, work ethic, and skills. I will teach them route running releases, how to run correct/effective routes, and hand-eye coordination (catching balls high or low), blocking, and reading the defensive coverage). I will accomplish these tasks through various drills designed for the wide receiver position. My overall goal is to help the student-athletes at this position to discover the mindset and real responsibilities it takes to achieve great heights at the wide receiver position and in life.
Here are a few key points in the quarterbacks program: the fundamental of the position, consistent ball delivery, footwork progressions, timing throws, accuracy, and decision making. The list below is a brief overview of the quarterback's workout.
Description of position drills:
During camp, we will be breaking down the basic fundamental skills of what makes a good offensive lineman. My goal as a coach, is to not teach a player something that may work for one coach but not another. Instead, I would rather break down and ingrain the universal tools that make a good lineman, which they can then take to whichever team or level they play at. We will work on balance, proper footsteps, proper punching mechanics, and most importantly the mental aspect of the game. That is what are you trying to accomplish as an offensive lineman and how to take what I teach you and apply it on the field.
Defensive Backs and Linebackers outlook and lessons:
As for defensive backs and linebackers, the worst thing that can happen to you is being out of place. Therefore, my Philosophy as a coach is to never put the student-athletes in a position to fail, but in a position to be successful. With this mindset, I intend to instill confidence through my fundamental training, and techniques that I call the "core four" principles of success:
Alignment and assignment
It is here where the student-athletes will learn to be lined up correctly (regardless of their formation) and execute the assignment they have. This applies to every position on the field as well.
Communication
It is very important to communicate to your teammate on every play. The nature of communicating breeds a great deal of accountability, trust, and confidence in each student-athlete.
Effort
I will show them that they can make great plays on effort alone. This is where our student-athletes will learn the importance of work ethic, meaning going hard on every play of the game.
Make Plays
This is where the kids are encouraged that by taking the previous steps serious, that they will put themselves in position to do great thing in this sport.
Drills
All of our drills for defensive backs will focus on the key elements that will enhance their abilities: footwork, quick hips, coming out of breaks, keeping your eyes on your man, playing eyes to hands technique, learning the proper way to strip the ball away from a receiver, and transitioning from back peddling to a full speed sprint, plus more.
For linebackers we will work on having a good stance, reading run first then pass, and angle drops for man and zone coverage's. Our footwork will consist of read steps, side shuffle, and transition from reading the run into a carry over sprint to their zone coverage. They will learn how to read the field as well as the quarterback, and squeeze the space between themselves and the running backs, plus more.
